Van Rossum was born on January 31, 1956, in the Netherlands.

He was also raised in the Netherlands where he graduated from the University of Amsterdam with a math and computer technology postgraduate program in 1982. 

His father was an architect, and his mother worked as an educator until resigning when they married. 

Guido received electrical equipment for his 10th birthday, which sparked his passion for electronics.

In 1986, he helped with the development of the ABC programming language.

He convinced the CNRI, along with his fellow Python professional developers and collaborators, to establish a software firm called in the year 2000, which subsequently failed the same year.
