Early Life

Mark Machado was born on May 18th, 1970 in Los Angeles, California.

Mark Machado is professionally known as Mister Cartoon.

He is one of the most successful tattoo and graffiti artists in the world.

Love For Drawing

He has been drawing and creating art since he was only eight years old.

He expressed an interest in art from the early age of eight and after his parents saw his natural talent, they supported him wholeheartedly.

Mr. Cartoon described himself as a quiet kid who could often be found with a pad of paper under his arm and a pencil in his ear.

When he was just a boy, his parents would often show off his talents to their friends who would be awe-struck that a child could possess so much talent.

He began drawing by recreating album covers for things like Saturday Night Fever and Queen.

Eventually, he was drawing constantly.

He would draw anything that he was interested in and had a knack for articulating mature themes into his artwork.

Airbrush Art

When he was young, his parents moved to Los Angeles’s Harbor Area.

It was here that Mark was able to express himself through the rich culture of the area.

He was introduced to the culture of the lowriders and began airbrushing intricate and mesmerizing designs onto the cars by the time he was 12 years old.

He also spray-painted t-shirts with his unique style.

It wasn’t long before Mark began to stand out for his innate talents and passion for the culture of his hometown.

A few years after being introduced to the lowrider scene Mark graduated from San Pedro High School.

In an interview with NPR, Mr. Cartoon explained that he did not stand out for his academic ability through high school.

However, he was carried through by his amazing artwork and stellar negotiation skills.

In fact, these are the exact skills that got Mark Machado out of a lot of sticky situations throughout his young life and into adulthood.

Tattooing People

When he was a teenager, he started tattooing people to earn an income.

He adopted a coveted style with his tattooing called the “Fineline Style” which came into development within the California Prison System.

He could articulate this style with smooth lines and intricate designs.

This earned him a bit of a reputation with different gangs throughout the harbor area.

Mark Machado was captivated by the rich culture of his community, and this is ultimately what drew him into gang life.

Eventually, Mr. Cartoon began tagging and doing gang-related graffiti throughout the area.

It wasn’t long before he was caught and arrested for vandalism when he was 17.

After he was arrested for vandalism at a young age, Mark Machado paid off his debt to the community by offering his artistic talents to local businesses and public venues.

When he started using his talents to support and spread his passion for culture throughout the community, things began to change for the young Mr. Cartoon.

His sister was able to land him a job doing gangster writing for movie studios.

Here, he began to receive more recognition for his talents and earned an income through doing what he loved most, airbrushing and artwork.

Through his first few gigs, Mr. Cartoon learned what it means to fake it til you make it.

He gathered up his spray paint cans and packed them into his father’s old briefcase and his mother would type him up invoices on the typewriter.

Although he had received recognition for his talents from others in the past, things were different this time.

When he showed up on set, people would call him Mister.

This is where his nickname Mr. Cartoon originated from.

Although Mark was still a teenager, his artistic talents were far beyond his years.

His friends joked with him that he would eventually grow into his new name, and with time, he did.

From there, Mr. Cartoon started landing more and more gigs throughout Hollywood.

After some time, he landed a gig designing for Cypress Hill and Eminem’s Shady Records logos.

This is how he began to receive recognition throughout the Hip Hop Scene.

Eventually, all of the celebrities and major artists were wanting a tattoo or some artwork done by Mr. Cartoon.

Source of Income

After Mr. Cartoon started designing and completing tattoos for celebrities, his career was taken to the next level.

He has tattooed many famous people including Kobe Bryant, Dr. Dre, Method Man, Travis Barker, Eminem, 50 Cent, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Snoop Dogg, and many more.

He has also made a portion of his net worth through designing album covers for bands and rap groups throughout the LA area.

However, Mr. Cartoon’s greatest sources of income come from his work with large corporations such as Nike, Toyota, T-Mobile, MetroPCS, and the Los Angeles Clippers.

He also did much of the artwork for the Grand Theft Auto video games.

More recently, he was featured in the Fighting Spirit Modelo Beer television commercials which highlight his story.

He has appeared in multiple music videos, including videos by Snoop Dogg and Eminem.

So there you have it folks!

Mister Cartoon has made his fortune by doing what he loves most, creating art.

He is an inspiration to Americans of all different backgrounds.

As a child, he was quiet and struggled academically but he was able to make something amazing out of himself by honing his passions for creating art and celebrating the cultures that he was raised around.

Today, Mr. Cartoon has a net worth of 15 million dollars amassed primarily as a tattoo artist.
